If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

New Broadcasting Company coming soon

Post by kentuckymedia »

Yes, its true. A new broadcasting company is soon on the way investing in local stations in West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.

The company is currently in the process of purchasing an AM/FM combo in Columbus Indiana, however plans are in the works to add more to the market, along with new stations near Bluefield, Huntington and Williamson.

The company is owned by former VP/Media Advancement for Jacor, Shelly C. Minnton. Look for more soon..

Interesting!!!!

Might they be interested in the CC/Huntington cluster? Or maybe Bristol in Charleston?

What else do we know?

I don't think there is much for sale besides the CC Clusters. WVRC isn't going anywhere, nor is Bristol. Unless LM sells, but why would Lynn sell unless they offer him the world... And that won't happen.

It honestly didnt say. I would assume they will be rimshot stations with decent coverage or a chance to move in closer to the city. She said she is doing this because the FCC opened the window to make station applications for move ins much easier.

My guess, she also has a nice financial backer....Randy????

purchasing an AM/FM combo in Columbus Indiana
Things are pretty cramped here in Central Indiana. Between Indy and Louisville, it would take another 5 station-3 state reallotment shell game to try to get closer to either Indy or Louisville.

This should be interesting.

Can't imagine why anyone would want another station "near" or in Williamson. Unless this is just a buyout of George Warren's Matewan station. 8O

George has wanted to sell for years. I don't think that's a secret to anyone.

True. And he demands to still be on the payroll if you buy it. He calls it his "retirement".

I would love to buy the station in Matewan. It would be a nice combo to buy those stations and the two stations in Logan. Build a studio out near the county line and really push the local feel for both Logan and Mingo counties.

However, the stations would only be worth what, Stick Value?

It sure would be great to get into ownership.

Maybe build a state of the art studio complex in Beebe right along US 119. Open a sales office in Delbarton to serve Mingo County and have a linked news room there as well.

1290 WVOW News/Talk/Sports "News Radio West Virginia 1290 AM"

1360 WHJC News/Talk/Sports "News Radio West Virginia 1360 AM"

101.9 WVOW Adult Contemporary "1019 Lite FM - Continuous Lite Rock"

106.7 WVKM Adult Top 40 "K106.7 - #1 For Today's Hit Music"

If you could get another signal at say 4,000 watts at Man or Delbarton, I would put on a Heritage Rock format.

When building the stations up in revenue, offer local sporting events on Newsradio West Virginia and 101.9.

SW-WVA and E-KY have been in dire need of a well programmed AC station. Everyone is doing Country or some form of Classic Hits or Classic Rock or Oldies. If someone walked in with a brain for AC...it would be the powerhouse station!

It would be both insane and stupid to change the programming of WVOW.

Who says that region is in dire need of an AC station? Once again, absence of a format does not necessarilly denote a format hole.

Powerhouse station? Are you shitting me? AC would beat country?

Dude.

On the two FM's, cover the entire spectrum.
Country on one of them and Western on the other.

You have to walk outside.

And another thing, WVOW has a 100 share of the audience in Logan.
A full spot load is all you could ask for.
Why change anything?
