1. No demand, due to lack of knowlage.

2. Little supply. It's never at the places that are supposed to have it. And the ones that do never have a properly working demo.

3. Even though the prices are now >$200 for some models, the price point is still too high.

4. There is strong correlation between 1-3.

5. HD is still pretty much only available in major markets. It may be several more years before small markets get it--which at present makes HD radios worthless in places like WV.

6. Because of the cost of HD equipment and paying yearly rights to iBiquity, many small market stations won't bother with it until HD radios are cheap and widely available in their local markets.

7. By the time HD Radio becomes an affordable, worthwhile option for everyone, Wi-Fi will be everywhere, satellite radio will be even more available/less clunky, and the iPod will have God only knows how many more capabilities...

8. I'm pretty sure I left something out...

I asked a local engineer how his IBOC sounded the other day.
He said it sounds a lot like FM.

Why buy a radio?

I heard it in Vegas. It sounded great. But as with most things GIGO. If you're running a crappy audio chain in analog, it will sound as bad, if not worse, in digital.
