Z-Rock...Red Hot Chilli...WHAT?

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

Z-Rock...Red Hot Chilli...WHAT?

Post by Cameron »

Z-Rock.
You know you run an RDS data-stream, right?
You know when you type in the title as "Snow" by "The Red Hot Chilli Peckers" everyone sees that on their radio's display...right?

I got some Aquafina on the dashboard on my way to the Power game tonight.

Thanks.

When country stations run this system and they play Rascal Flatts or Kenny Chesney does it say "another shitty ass attempt at country music" on the display? Just wondering.

The WVRC version of the song is now, "Cake in the closet".

What Cameron was referring to was WV Radio's dropping of "offensive" songs. He says Chesney's "Keg in the Closet" will now be known as "Cake in the Closet".

That Cameron is so witty.

I beg to differ.

Before this thread devolves into a disucussion of subtile nuances of "Convoy", is there a rule or an interpretation of an FCC rule that would allow for a fine for offensive-material broadcast across a station's data-stream (I.E. RDS. PIDS, or IBOC text)?

I don't know of any rule that would address that in the pure-data realm of the signal. Analog subcarriers, yes. Digital data services...dunno.
Does the attachment of the service to the licensed-carrier automatically pull it into an umbrella of the FCC's obscenity rules?

Bueller...Bueller...?

I would think that anything broadcast non-encrypted to the general public is covered by the obsenity rules. That leaves out subscription services like SCA or metadata, but would include RDS, DTV's PID and things like that. If I knew who "Z-rock" was, I might complain.

nah.
It was more funny than anything else.
It just brings up a point that there's no clear-cut rule for the data-services yet.

I think the FCC would have to "stretch" to bring the data under the heading of an existing rule.

...and by "peckers", I'm sure they meant chickens.

Hmm. Interesting. You'd think that there would be more call-in culture after 10. There's no timeframe on the broadcasting restrictions in the UK, but 10p-1a is usually when most stations have their call-in shows.
So sayeth His Royal Highness King Spike; greatest broadcasting talent of his generation.

So, what is this week's definition of "indecent"?

No money = no love.

Probably the only reason most stations even stay on the air all night is to keep the competition from gaining any advantage...
