If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

Don Imus and the "Great Radio Stunt"

Post by Zak Tyler »

Let's throw this scenario out there....
(credit where credit is due, our president walked in to the om's office when he and i were talkin shop, we got on the subject of imus and o&a, he spouts the following idea)

Don Imus utters the, now infamous, phrase... he and his bosses realize he f'd up big time. fast forward to the end of the show...

closed door meeting: "boss": we've gotta find a way to spin this in our favor

*light bulb*

first of all you suck it up and appologize, then let's make a HUGE stink out of this, get advertisers to pull their advertising (they'll like it because they'll look like concerned Americans), we'll "fire" you (get a lot of media attention), you sue us (even more media), we'll get high profile subs to sit in while you're gone (more media and publicity),and then (here's the beauty) you start saying that you'd like to get back on the air, and eventually, after somebody else jumps in the "asshole chair" and America kinda forgets how bad your fuck up was, we decide to bring you back (HUGE NUMBERS)

everybody wins......

TAH... DAHHHHHHH :)

WE'VE PULLED A SHINY WHITE RABBIT OUT OF OUR STINKING ASSES :)
I'm not an idiot, but I play one on the radio.

This morning both Chuck and Lou were on MSNBC and WFAN with David Gregory as the host.

This could mean a variety of things.

Not a bad theory, at least for Imus. However, is anyone crying in their supper 'cause Don is off the air? I was never a listener/viewer... never will be.

IMUS' LEGAL BLUFF
JOCKEYING RETURN TO AIR

By PETER LAURIA
May 18, 2007
Imus is angling to get back on the air.
According to four sources close to the situation, Don Imus' lawyer, Martin Garbus, is trying to use the radio personality's impending lawsuit against CBS Radio, which hasn't been filed yet, as leverage for reinstatement.

It could happen.

When Talk Radio UK launched in 1995, it unashamedly touted itself as an "American-style" talk radio station and had a variety of caller-insulting hosts talking about hot-button subjects. The overnight guy was by far the most dangerous - Wild Al Kelly, who swore like a sailor with the clap, claimed "I could shit on Nick Abbot" (a popular talker on Virgin 1215), called the Chicago O'Hare lost and found department looking for "my bollocks. They're sort of like two balls in a small leather bag" and called his PD "King Of The Dickheads" because the PD was trying to restrict content. I often wondered if he was an intentional sacrificial lamb to try and get publicity for the station. It would make sense for a station that was eager to prove it was 'dangerous' to have a fine fund so they could make a big deal out of firing someone for publicity.

Wild Al lasted a month, but the headlines were never written.

Maybe in continental Europe. Radio in the UK is faaaar more restrictive than it is here. I'm sure I've cited this example on here before, but one of my talk radio heroes, Scottie McClue, got fined around $5,000 for using the word "bastard". At 11 o'clock at night.

Yep. And he was using it in its correct form, as in 'child born out of wedlock'. Now, admittedly he was saying "your child is a bastard" to get a reaction out of the caller - a single mother, a favourite target of his - but still... it's eleven o'bleeding clock at night.

[putting on my tin foil hat and hypothesizing again]

R&R afternoon delight... errrr e-mail wrote:• With a protest being threatened by area African-American leaders, Entercom's talk WRKO/Boston has canceled scheduled appearances by fired Don Imus producer Bernard McGuirk. McGuirk was set to co-host WRKO morning host Tom Finneran's show Wednesday-Friday of this week.

I Want to take a moment to apologize for an insensitive and ill- conceived remark I made just seconds ago, regarding the The British. It was completely inappropriate, and I can understand why people were offended. My characterization was thoughtless and stupid, and I am sorry.

Sorry. I can never keep all of the Racial and Nationality stereotypes straight. I did read somewhere that a good many of the British consider dental care frivolous and cosmetic. I also read somewhere that they were all gay. Or was that the Scottish? It was one of the British Isles..

I tried to ask Spike about it once, but he kept hitting on me.
