Aloha Trust

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

Aloha Trust

Post by genlock »

Any idea why Clearchannel/Capstar is transferring stations to Aloha Trust?
I thought that only two or three stations were involved with the new limits.
Who is Aloha Trust? Is this part of GoodRadio Inc?

1. Aloha trust has no connection with Good Radio, et al.

2. A number of the stations transferred to the trust are those stations under contract with Good Radio.

3. A number are not.

4. By taking Clear Channel private, the new privately-owned company loses "grandfather" status with respect to:
A. TV radio cross-ownership in the same market, e.g., Channel 5 in Cincinnati and the CC radio cluster there;
B. Markets where ownership limits were calculated under the former contour overlap rules, but that are now subject to the Arbitron market rules.

Under the new method of calculating the number of stations in a rated market, the only stations counted are those licensed to the counties in that rated market and any stations outside those counties which have a significant presence in the market (e.g.: some presence in the book).

5. Huntington/Ashland is one example of the later type of market.

6. Cleveland is another example. What is interesting is that the problem there is Akron-Canton, where the Cleveland stations will have significant presence. So why where the Cleveland stations bid "aloha?" Perhaps Clear Channel has a buyer in the wings? Carl Hirsch, who sold some of those same stations to CC? BTW, the lone Akron station in the trust actually has it's transmitter site near those of the Cleveland stations.
