WVRC Charleston/MetroNews Changes

Post by unchoopfan »

Steve and Jenny are leaving V100's morning lineup, effective Sept. 12; replaced by recent Bristol Charleston departure Stacie Roberts and former WOGT, Chattanooga PD/afternoon personality Reid Thrush. Bishop, who's been a morning fixture at V100 since February 1984, moves to V100 middays (10-3), while Jenny Murray moves to afternoon drive (3-7). Jeanie K moves to nights.

Roberts and Thrush formerly worked afternoons at Jackson, MS country station WUSJ prior Thrush's stint in the Chattanooga market. After working previous stints at WQBE and Beckley's WJLS, Roberts made her way to back to West Virginia earlier this year, joining Al Woody and Jeff Jeffreys Whitehead on WQBE's Morning Air Show.

Bishop will take on a new role with WVRC's MetroNews Network side of the operations, replacing Dave Weekley as the new host of Hotline (3-6 p.). Weekley, who eight months ago inked a new five-year deal with the network, is returning to Florida full-time to continue his TV work with ESPN's family of networks and online channels.

Could 96.1 be departing the country format?

From RadioInsight:
West Virginia Radio Corporation Country “96.1 The Wolf” WKWS Charleston WV has gone all Garth Brooks as “96.1 The Garth“.

The stunt comes as Brooks prepares for three concerts in Charleston this weekend. However more changes may be on the way for the station following the stunt. The airstaff has been removed from the station’s website as morning host Kidd Conley jumped to afternoons at Bristol Broadcasting’s 97.5 WQBE and co-host Miss Amanda moved to sister Rhythmic CHR “98.7 The Beat” WRVZ.

WV Radio Corporation has registered multiple domains for potential use at WKWS in recent weeks. 961KWS.com and 961TheGarth.com were registered simultaneously last week, while anonymous registrations for 961Sky.com, 961SkyFM.com, Sky961.com, and TheNewSky961.com made in July match the Classic Hits brand launched by the company last month on 106.5 WWLW Clarksburg.

In the Spring 2016 Nielsen Audio ratings WKWS ranked sixth in the Charleston market with a 5.9 share, but that placed it well behind Bristol Broadcasting’s market leading 97.5 WQBE’s 16.4 share.
