You're Fired--Sanjay works cheaper!

Post by Tom Taggart »

From BBC News:

"Newspaper outsourcing

Reuters' Bangalore operation is only one example of a broader trend in outsourcing by media organisations.

Many American newspapers, facing severe cost pressures, are looking to outsource many of their key functions to India.

Recent moves have included:

* Columbus Dispatch: Ohio newspaper outsourced 90 jobs in advertising design to Affinity Express in Pune, India."

Watch for ads with "organization" spelled with an "S."

If you want to read a good book check out "The World is Flat" by Thomas L. Friedman...it deals with this sort of stuff.

When I worked for Cingular in Tech Support, I can't tell you how many customers expressed gratitude for the fact that I didn't have an Indian accent. Or a twangy Southern accent.

In fairness, when I call Dell or other companies with overseas techs, MOST speak impeccable English. Many speak better English than Americans. However, their accents are often very irritating and make them hard to understand.

American companies will do better having customer service that comes with Americans don't have a foreign accent. This includes broadcasters as well as customer service and tech support issues.
