Engineer aided launches of TV, radio stations
TEMPERANCE - Robert Sowers, 88, a broadcast engineer for more than 40 years who helped put two radio stations and a television station on the air, died from complications of Alzheimer's disease Friday in Foundation Park Alzheimer's Care Center, Toledo, where he had been since September.

There are so many pioneers that we are losing.

Unfortunately, viewers remember the anchors, and the engineers get no glory. Without the engineers, no station gets on the air and no station stays on the air.

I didn't know this man. But if he was like so many engineers I have worked with he toiled quietly in the background never getting the appreciation he deserved.

Thanks for letting us know of his passing. May he rest in peace.
