Ohio's First Radio Station WHK 1420 AM Celebrates 85 Years in Cleveland

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio, Mar 06, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- In March 1922, just two weeks after President Warren G. Harding brought the first radio into the White House, WHK radio was granted its broadcast license. It was the first licensed radio station in Ohio, and one of the first 10 nationwide. In March 2007, News Talk 1420 AM WHK celebrates 85 years of broadcasting with a record of distinction in the radio industry.

"WHK has been a groundbreaking radio station since its inception," says Errol Dengler, Salem Cleveland vice president and general manager. "We are excited about celebrating 85 years of great memories with Northeast Ohio. From WHK's years as a dominant rock-n-roll station, to its pioneering development of 'talk radio' and Oldies formats, to its current lineup of popular News Talk programs, WHK has always been a leader."

Beginning this month, WHK listeners will be able to enjoy special radio retrospectives with historical radio clips, audio highlights, and station jingles from the past 85 years. Other special events will be planned for this anniversary year celebration including a summer concert evoking the golden era of WHK's early rock greatness. WHK () offers conservative news and commentary from a host of key thinkers on the national landscape of politics and culture including Bill Bennett, Laura Ingraham, Dennis Prager, Michael Medved and Hugh Hewitt.

I know who I'm going to sound like here, but what a shame a station with heritage like that doesn't have a more local line-up. :(
So sayeth His Royal Highness King Spike; greatest broadcasting talent of his generation.
