Interesting 97.7 move to Morehead, KY

This is messed up to me because Georgetown, OH appears to be a more lucrative market than having the stick placed in Morehead with the city of license in Salt Lick.

It looks like it would be better to sell advetising on both stations with a single frequency covering from Maysville, KY to Dayton, OH. Now, they will have a dead zone along the Ohio River from Maysville, KY/Aberdeen, OH to Moscow, OH.

My guess is that First Broadcasting felt the move would allow them better coverage of the Cincinnati metro with two sticks under the new layout than the broadcast-by-committee tactic with three signals, though realistically WAOL at 99.5 is not much of a player to that end. This is all about the placement of the new WOXY in Cincinnati and the I-75 corridor between Cincy and Dayton. The fact that Morehead is receiving another signal is simply a by-product of the shifting.

Maybe they saw the Morehead businesses buying ads on stations that can't even be heard in Morehead, and decided to get some of that $$$ for themselves.

That is a large hole in the coverage. The caveat is that if the stick was in Salt Lick instead of being southeast of Morehead, then that hole would be relatively non-existent.

97.7 is now known as WKCA and is airing the old 107.7 WKCA ABC "Real Country" feed.

107.7,the former WKCA is now WKYN and is running a classic country format. WKYN is located as such that Mt. Sterling could be it's COL as the new tower sits near the Bath/Montgomery County line. They have made a nice new tower site there.

Look for 96.3 to move sticks in the future as Gateway will put WIVY on it's own tower that 97.7 is on on Triangle Hill. 96.3 is currently on the WQXX/WMOR stick across the hill above KY 32. WMKY,the public radio station @ 90.3 will put a backup site and aux antenna on this site too.

Gateway Radio Works owns WKCA,WKYN,WIVY.

Morgan County Industries owns WQXX,WMOR.

WMKY owned by Morehead State University.

That seems strange, Real Country is the marketing name for ABC's Traditional Country format. Wonder why do Traditional Country on both 97.7 and 107.7?
