At least no AM is doing this. FM in my opinion is bad enough.

HD does wonderful things to the analog FM audio. The cymbals "Slow Ride" on WRFX in Charlotte sounded like someone hitting them with a wet dishrag.

Degrade the analog, boys, so the crapafacts in HD don't sound so bad.

I knew digital was in trouble years ago, when I read a discussion about 'bit rates'. All involved wanted the "lowest possible". There was no discussion about quality.

This certainly reads like that discussion never did happen.

With storage capacity being what it is now, a station could just get a tera server and store the music as uncompressed wav files.

128k mp3s won't cut it on HD FM.

They don't cut it on analog FM, either. I still hear them west of the Ash/Hunt. market, though.
