Pittsburgh HD2 development

Post by Ace Purple »

According to All Access, Clear Channel Pittsburgh is now simulcasting Fox Sports Radio 970 (WBGG) on the HD2 channel on FM NewsTalk 104.7 (WPGB). This is a wise move, though sports talk would probably fit better on an HD3 feed. Previously, CC aired a Smooth Jazz format on WPGB-HD2.

After the Amp flip in L.A., I wonder if HD-2s will become incubation grounds for new formats, giving them time to make tweaks before moving to the main signal.

FM sports talk will be the next "big" format craze, esp in pro sports towns. There should already be one in Pittsburgh...

Apparently the HD Radio Alliance rule about not airing commercials on subchannels has lapsed. CBS is now simulcasting Hot Talk WJFK-FM 106.7 on WTGB 94.7 HD-3, and "The Big Talker" (mostly conservative talk) WHFS-AM 1580 on WPGC-FM 95.5 HD-3 here in D.C. Too bad almost nobody has an HD Radio.
