New word??

Post by Bar Rat »

I was coming home from Cincinnati, driving through Scioto and Lawrence County when I heard a new word during some of the high school football broadcasts.

"He thoed the flag right there" is an example of usage I heard.

Thoed. Sounded like "toed" with an H. I thought the word was "threw", but I heard this new invented word several times on different stations.

I'm not quite sure how it's spelled, I'm just guessing here.

Has anyone found a concrete definition for "thoed" in their broadcasting careers?

Is this indeed a substitution for the more common English of "threw", as in past tense of "throw"?

Thank you for your considerable assistance.

Perhaps you heard "throwed," which is a poor Appalachian colloquialism for "threw."

Right after that..."he was drugged down at the 45 yard line"... another great phrase used often on WNXT. The fun of high school football delivered over scratchy phone lines. Surely at some point they could afford a used Comrex...or drag that old Marti out of the junk room.
