WGOH: 50 Years On The Air

People in Carter County have been tuning in to their local radio station for 50 years to hear about the things happening in their communities, monitor the challenges of local sports teams, or talk about politics and other local issues.

The contributions of WGOH/WUGO radio will be recognized during a Carter County Board of Education meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. today, celebrating the station’s 50th year of broadcasting.

WGOH/WUGO General Manager Francis Nash said corporate consolidation of many radio stations nationwide has resulted in less local coverage in many markets. As an independently operated broadcasting system, Nash said the station in Grayson has been able to remain committed to the concerns of people who live and work in the immediate area....

"GO" Radio is a living relic of the past. The last example of what community radio was 30 years ago.

And also an example of what radio will have to become again if it wants to not suffer the same fate as newspapers...

WUGO still has liners on the air "thanking you for making the U-Turn" :) And I hope it always does.
