WOXY en español

Post by Mr. Jones »

Radio-Info:
Cincinnati's "Max 97.7" is going Spanish, effective November 1

WOXY as Max 977

First Broadcasting Capital Partners' WOXY, Mason, OH (97.7) is being leased out to the local TSJ Radio LLC, which has other plans for it. TSJ is associated with The Spanish Journal, and indeed WOXY will soon drop its variety-hits “Max 97.7” format in favor of a new Spanish-language format, yet to be announced. First bought then adult alternative “97X” WOXY, Oxford, Ohio from the Balogh family in 2004, with the intention of moving it closer to Cincinnati and re-selling the upgraded facility. Instead, Radio-Info.com is reporting that First will LMA the station out to TSJ Radio, which has an option to purchase. No terms were announced today. WOXY is currently in a simulcast with another First-owned FM: WAOL, Ripley, Ohio (99.5). The LMA deal for WOXY was brokered on behalf of First by Dallas-based Doug Ferber of DEFCom LLC.

Want to buy WOXY? Here's your chance!
Seattle & Cincinnati Stations To Go Up For Auction

February 21, 2011 at 6:32 pm 0 Comments

First Broadcasting 104.5 KMCQ Seattle Mega 97.7 WOXY 99.5 WAOL Cincinnati

Following the default and failure to repay its loans to creditors, First Broadcasting’s Classic Hits 104.5 KMCQ Covington/Seattle, WA and Cincinnati rimshot combo Spanish “Mega 97.7” WOXY Mason, OH and Variety Hits “99.5 Max-FM” WAOL Ripley, OH will be auctioned off to the highest qualified bidder on Wednesday, February 23.

First specialized in moving stations into larger markets such as KMCQ which was previously licensed to The Dalles, OR before moving to Seattle which required frequency shifts in Bellingham, WA and Vancouver, BC to make happen. The station has not appeared in the ratings as it does not encode for PPM.

Half of the Cincinnati duo, 97.7 WOXY was leased to TSJ Media last fall and flipped to Spanish AC as “Mega 97.7“. The station is best known for its long run as Modern Rock “97X“. TSJ had an option to purchase the station. 99.5 WAOL continues to operate a jockless Variety Hits format as “Max-FM“.

Radio-Info had this as an auction of the station's assets, which does not include the licenses. Lenders may be cautious here, to avoid the risk of losing the main asset--the licenses--by an unauthorized transfer of the license in contravention of FCC rules.

There is precedent for a lender taking over the license--happened recently with an Iowa station the bank took over--but that was through a state bankruptcy procedure and after application by trustee to transfer the license.
