By Maria Sciullo, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

One day after the departure of former chief meteorologist Julie Bologna, WPXI has announced her replacement: Stephen Cropper.

"Stephen is an excellent meteorologist and someone we've admired for many years," said Ray Carter, WPXI vice president and general manager. Mr. Cropper left local news rival WTAE in April.

"What's great about this [weather] team is that we either grew up here or we've been here long enough to know what makes our region unique," said Mr. Cropper, who was with WTAE for 16 years.

He will provide weather forecasts weekdays at 5, 6 and 11 p.m., as well as doing the 10 p.m. WPXI news on Fox 53. Mr. Cropper begins his new position next week, but will make his on-air debut in August.
