Sinclair Buying Freedom For $385 Million

Post by Mr. Jones »

I put it here because of one paragraph in the article:
As Smith indicated, the company may be buying more stations. A source said the company could announce as soon as tomorrow that it’s buying LIN Television’s WWHO, a CW affiliate, in Columbus, Ohio (DMA 34) for an estimated $7 million.
If they already own WSYX-6 and WTTE-28, how are they going to make WWHO work?

Interesting .. . I know they have their hands in both WSYX and WTTE in Columbus... However isn't one of them "licensed" another another group of Sinclair to get around ownership regs? (Kinda like the whole Aloha Trust Clear Channel has even though they should be divesting those stations) ...

Will be interesting to see what happens with WWHO ... My understanding is that WWHO's Master control is out of state at another station and locally in town they just have sales offices (they can do MC from Columbus as they did in the past I am guessing) ... I know the WWHO offices location that is actually down the road from WSYX/WTTE on Dublin Rd still has multiple C-Band dishes out back. (I know the size of the current WSYX/WTTE studios .. there is no real room for a 3rd station .. (then again WWHO is nothing but syndication / network programming.. they could do a Clear Channel and stuff a video file server in the closet!)
