New Cleveland Indians broadcaster

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

New Cleveland Indians broadcaster

From the Akron Beacon-Journal:

A voice from the past

Don't be surprised if sometime this spring or summer you are watching SportsTime Ohio and someone with a gravelly voice shouts, ``Love ya, Cleveland!''

Yes, that gravelly voice. Ever since last fall, there have been indications that the Indians would hire Bruce Drennan to host a talk show on the team's television network, probably in the afternoon.

Drennan, of course, has been unavailable to work recently, having been forced to serve a five-month sentence in a West Virginia federal prison for filing false tax returns.

When he gets out, reportedly Friday, he will serve another five months under house arrest but might be permitted to leave home to go to work. His last job was at sports-talk station WKNR (850-AM).

Drennan became a subject of interest to the feds, at least as far back as 2004, because of an investigation into illegal gambling. The cops linked Drennan with a local bookmaker and put the squeeze on the longtime radio and TV personality.

He admitted to betting between $14,000 and $37,000 a day on baseball games, which led to his guilty plea on the tax charges. Because federal officials did not go for a gambling conviction, per se, sports teams will not be stigmatized by hiring him.
