Super Colon coming to mall

HUNTINGTON — In an effort to raise awareness about the prevention of colon cancer, The Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center is bringing the Super Colon to the Huntington Mall.

The inflatable, 20-foot long, 8-foot high replica of a human colon will be at the Gazebo on Friday, March 9 through Sunday, March 11.


Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in men and women in West Virginia and in the United States, according to the American Cancer Society. It is estimated that there will be 1,210 cases of colorectal cancer diagnosed and as many as 480 deaths from the disease in West Virginia in 2007.

The Super Colon will provide an example of what it looks like inside the human colon. Observers will have a chance to learn about colorectal cancer screenings, prevention and treatment options.

The Super Colon is an educational tool provided by the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation and is being brought to Huntington by the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center with help from grants from Amgen and Mountains of Hope.
