Another Vista success story

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Another Vista success story

Post by Brad Allen »

I never thought Microsoft could outdo the mistake of Windows ME, until Vista came along.

Yeah, ME blew. (that just looks and sounds funny)
I have been using Vista for a couple of weeks so my experience is limited. So far, the biggest thorns have been how long the damn thing boots. This is critical for a laptop that is more likely to need to cold boot. I am now in the habit of putting it to "sleep" or "hibernate" which works very well (so far).

The other thorn was that "Cancel or Allow" shit. I put an end to that nonsense immediately. Since then, it is been very stable but other than the cosmetics, I haven't discovered any critical improvements over XP.

Are you not using a system that is up to spec? Vista boots faster than XP on my work rigs... make that rig... I retrograded to XP on my lab PC, and haven't been happier.

It will be a cold day in hell before it makes it to my home rig.

By the way, don't lump Vista in with Office 2007. Office is an outstanding new package. Vista, as Scrappleface said, is Windows ME, Second Edition.

XP been working fine for me. I see no need to upgrade.

Course I have a windowblind skin that makes it look like I'm running Vista.

Vista has two cool features:

1: Aeroglass chooser. (3D window flipper thingee)
2: A calendar pops up when you click the date/time (instead of changing the date and time)

If that's all they bring to the table... no update necessary.

Wasn't there some type of programming that make graphic in games and such better?

DirectX 10. So far it has done nothing but make today's games run slower.

I played Crysis at CES, and while it looked good, it wasn't all that. I much prefer F.E.A.R., which comes to a crawl when run on Vista.
