Larry Birkhead comes back to Louisville

I covered Larry's return via private jet this afternoon. Even though Access Hollywood was on the plane, and paying him a million dollars, he walked right over to us about 75 yards away, and was very gracious in answering questions. He is very thin though...says he needs his Mom's home cooking.
Saw the baby from a distance...yes she's very cute.

I didn't follow the Anna Nicole story one bit (seriously, not one bit), but what Al posted was interesting to me.

I actually think it's cool that amayo covered one of the biggest "entertainment" stories of the year. I'm tired of the whole thing myself (was after Day One), but you have to give the man credit.

Trust me when I tell you, I was assigned to the story, and would never have gone to the airport on my own. But like it or not, our networks all wanted the audio, and we were tasked with obtaining it. It made CBS, FOX, and Clear Channel World.
I must say, the number of papparrazzi was astounding, and in fact I used the opportunity to do two sidebars. One on the frenzy of media on this story, and the second about the huge number of private planes in Louisville for the kentucky Derby. So it was not a wasted trip.

Much more interesting topics. I am amazed at what a spectacle the derby continues to be in the 21st century. The race is, what, 5 minutes long?

Actually it's billed as the 'most exciting two minutes in sports'.

As of this morning, there are 93 private jets at both Louisville airports, with the majority still to arrive.

I just did a story previewing the Governor's annual Derby Breakfast which will host 15,000 people Saturday morning, and we just had the Derby Festival Opening ceremonies about 10 days ago....

This year, 'Thunder Over Louisville' drew an estimated 815,000 spectators on both sides of the Ohio River. Over 76,000 shells used this year in the fireworks display.

It never ceases to amaze me how the whole event seems to grow each year.
