Jet And Scott's Halloween Spectacular #3

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Tom!

Job well done!

Don't tell me. You're dressing up as a secretary on October 31st!!

Anyway, the one thing that alphabetization does is point out some songs that I thought were listed that are not:

Blue Oyster Cult--Screams
Status Quo--Black Veils Of Melancholy
Fleetwood Mac--Rattlesnake Shake
Santana--Black Magic Woman
Judas Preist--Screaming For Vengeance
Roy Wood's Wizzard--Rattlesnake Roll
Blue Oyster Cult--Hot Rails To Hell

In all seriousness:

I'm doing research for message for Sunday morning's service. I forgot Elvis did "Witchcraft".

Never knew Word Perfect did that. We have it here, but everybody uses the newest (and vastly improved) Word 2007 or whatever it is.

So, Greg, what's the upshot of all this Halloween business? I've been listening in the mornings, and all I hear is Abilene. Are we going to get some Halloween music, or what? And what about the Wicked Fierce Milk Box?

Dr. Yeti has promised me a Halloween show. We will probably air it after the ballgame Friday night. As to the Wicked, Fierce Milk Box, I will track down its location...I'll look for the slow leak. Jet, as soon as I get time (yeah, right), I'll add more country. You may not know that I have middle schoolers working with me after school until at least 5, and we've been slipping in some of the music all of you suggested. Make sure to listen today! As always, thanks for listening!

Greg, I happened to be out on the road last night at the right time, and I caught part of your War OF The Worlds broadcast. I’ve heard this before, years ago, and I don’t know why it hit me so this time, but man, that was really spooky. I know an old guy, friend of the family, that was about 10 or 12 back in ’38, the oldest of several kids, and heard this broadcast, and was one of those people that believed it. Worse, his folks were away that evening and he was watching all the young ‘uns, and panicked. This guy told me, and I believe him, that they all spent the night in a ditch in the woods with a shotgun, until the folks made it home in the early morning. Can you imagine? Seems silly today, but you listen to that old broadcast and let your imagination take over a bit, you can really see what the power of radio used to be. Anyway, keep up the good work. The rest of you radio guys out there: More Led Zeppelin, deviation will not be tolerated.

Thanks, Jet...Dr. Yeti's Hallowe'en show should air between 6 and 7 (if I get it in time). After the game, we'll do more Halloween music. I'm glad you enjoyed "War." If anyone knows where I can access the revised radio version, plugged by cnn.com this week, let me know. Thanks! (I know-I'm too lazy to look for myself).

Bruce Springsteen posts Halloween song on Web site
Oct 31, 8:04 AM (ET)

RUMSON, N.J. (AP) - Bruce Springsteen has a Halloween treat for his fans.

The rocker has posted a free download of a new song, "A Night With the Jersey Devil," on his Web site. The song has a blues beat, and Springsteen sings about "16 witches casting 16 spells."

Writes Springsteen: "If you grew up in central or south Jersey you grew up with the 'Jersey Devil.' Here's a little musical Halloween treat. Have fun!"

There's also a video showing Springsteen as the legendary Jersey Devil.

Earlier this week, Springsteen announced that he and his wife would not hold their annual elaborate Halloween display at their Rumson mansion. The couple said they were worried about people's safety because the event attracted too many visitors.

Also just in is this:

Image

I know I write about him alot on the Halloween thread, but I was going from memory of the album of his that I had with The Aliens from back around 1981. This is obviously live and probably not as good as the studio stuff, but it does feature:

Two Headed Dog
Don't Shake Me Lucifer
I Walked with a Zombie

Those are from the studio LP that I had and I can vouch that they are great cuts of very bizarre rock and roll. Also on this CD are these songs I have never heard, but sound "Halloweenish":

Stand for the Fire Demon
Bloody Hammer
Creature with the Atom Brain Erickson
I Think Up Demons
The Beast

I also noticed today that P.F. Sloan does a great song called "Halloween Mary". The clip I heard definitely sounds cool. He wrote "Eve Of Destruction", "Child Of Our Times" and "Sins Of A Family", in case you're wondering. Jimmy Webb and The Association both did songs called "P.F. Sloan" in tribute to him...

WSWO-LP in the Dayton area broke from their Oldies format to do a Halloween special last night. They went 4 hours, and I'd wager probably all of the songs played were on this list somewhere.

Getting to be that time of year. Yeah, still 6-7 weeks away, but it's on my mind this week. So, I decided to bump up Scott's great list.

Lets play a new game. You're going to program a 90 minute Halloween show. Let's see your list of 20 songs, and in playing order. If you've got some sound effects tracks or oddball songs you want to use, spell 'em out, we're interested. The kernal of this idea was a thought that I ought to make myself a great Halloween CD.

Wow, Jetsy, good idea! I was kind of shocked at my own answers. If I had to do a show I would do it in chronological order (which I believe, off the top of my head) my list is fairly close, and I limited myself to only two "out of the ordinary" songs.

1-I Put A Spell On You
2-Witch Doctor
3-I Want My Baby Back
4-Monster Mash
5-Haunted House
6-Ding Dong, The Witch Is Dead
7-Season Of The Witch
8-Sympathy For The Devil
9-Fire (The Crazy World Of Arthur Borown)
10-Evil Woman (Crow)
11-Welcome To My Nightmare
12-Don't Fear The Reaper
13-Bat Out Of Hell
14-Highway To Hell
15-Werewolves Of London
16-Runnin' With The Devil
17-The Creature From The Black Lagoon
18-Raise A Little Hell
19-Eye Of The Zombie
20-Halloween

Deadmau5 - Ghosts n Stuff

A fun little dance song I found on a promo copy.

Could be in a Halloween lineup imo.

Bob, I don't get out much, so I didn't know about a Jeff Wayne version. I just went to mp3raid.com and located it! No chance downloading on dial-up, however, so I'll do it first thing tomorrow morning at school. It'll be fun for the kids to compare the two versions.
