Power outage in INDIA

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Power outage in INDIA

Post by genlock »

Shivpal Singh Yadav, the power minister in the state of Uttar Pradesh, home to 200 million people,
said that while demand during peak hours hits 11,000 megawatts, the state can only provide 9,000 megawatts

11,000 megawatts is 11 gigawatts.

Add up the outputs of:

Amos 2.933gw
Gavin 2.6gw
Mountaineer 1.3 gw
louisa 1.1 gw
Willow I 1.3 gw
Zimmer 1.3 gw
And you get 10.533 GW!

Add in a few of the peaker jet engine stations and you have enough power for the north of india.
I left out a lot of the stations as I could not remember their names.

I can see evidence of about 8Gw from my house. (smoke and water vapor)

Third world, Indeed.

Let's not forget that about ten years ago, ENRON built a power plant in the middle of nowhere in India without even lines to connect to. Perhaps they should build a line to the unuseable power plant.

Let's further consider the magnitude of that outage. After the storm of June 29, a large percentage of WV lost power. This outage in India is analogous to two-thirds of the UNITED STATES being without power! 8O

The rest of the India northern grid is down.
Over 600 million without power.
Twice the population of the USA.

Most of the Indian infrastructure has not been updated since the British left in 1948.

No power to pump gas either.
Solar cells might work if you have enough for the charge.

India's outage affects 8.25% of the world's population.

India makes AEP look kinda good.

With 7 nuclear reactors within 50 miles of The Encampment, I only see the water vapor from Limerick, Salem, and Hope Creek. Peach Bottom cools itself back into the Susquehanna River so it produces no visible emissions. Although, if one of the radioactive water heaters go all Fukashima on us, I am running back to The Compound.
