Gazette Sunday/Kabler:

"While the rumor is that West Virginia Public Broadcasting Executive Director Dennis Adkins will step down before the next Educational Broadcasting Authority meeting on Sept. 12, Adkins said that's news to him.

"I have no reason to do that. I'm just waiting to hear what they [the EBA] decide to do," he said.

At its meeting Aug. 22, the authority met in closed session for about an hour to discuss Adkins' employment status. Reportedly, the members were not impressed by Adkins' proposals for cutting WVPB expenses in light of ongoing revenue reductions."

Lord knows what kind of applications they will get for the EBA job.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The executive director of West Virginia Public Broadcasting announced Thursday that he will retire effective Dec. 21.

Dennis Adkins' announcement followed an hour-long, closed-door session of the Educational Broadcasting Authority to discuss personnel matters, and after months of Adkins being at odds with authority members over finances and the future of public broadcasting in the state.

In accepting Adkins' retirement, EBA members directed chairman Bill File of Beckley to begin a comprehensive search for a new executive director, and to appoint a task force to study the future of public broadcasting.
