Keystone Drive/Airport Slide, Charleston, WV

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Keystone Drive/Airport Slide, Charleston, WV

Post by genlock »

Drove up Keystone Drive today to see the slide.
On the way home from the Hamfest.
To see the slide on tv and in the paper is impressive.
To see it in person is overwhelming.
The cameras do not do it justice.
The lens tricks the picture into something it is not.
Most of the time tv will try to play up the drama of the scene.
This time they failed-badly.
If you live in Charleston , or have a chance to visit there, go see the slide.

When I saw the pictures on the internet, it did not look as bad as even I could have imagined, and even the accounts written in the media seemed to not really do a great job capturing the drama of the situation.

As a photographer, I know that wide angle lenses (news outlets typically use a 24-35 mm lens) has a tendency to reduce the drama of an image for television or print. In fact, the 24mm focal length (with a 35mm sensor target) is considered to be the most boring focal length because of how flattens the 3D world to 2D. OK, I just went way too deep into my photography habit...... I will go back to looking for inappropriate headlines on The Register.
