Have you checked your CD-R's lately?

Post by Lester »

TechARP found a failure rate near 10% for CD-Rs recorded 7 to 9 years ago, after storage in ideal conditions. On some, one or more individual files could not be recovered; others were not reliably readable on two separate drives.

Good reason to look into a Drobo and Amazon S3 for critical backup.

I have never had much trust in CD-Rs after I discovered that a scuff to some disks can cause all the media holding the data to flake off the polycarbonate disk. I found many of the generic disks from OfficeMax, Office Depot, and Staple had this problem.
