Editing Studio Lighting Question: HELP!!!!!

Post by Scott Reppert »

We need to acquire new actual room light fixtures in our TV editing room. The current ones are old and need to be turned OFF whenever voiceover work is done because the "hum" from them will get on the audio.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to which brand/type of lighting fixture or other hardware device can be installed to eliminate this problem?

You help is appreciated...

Electrical hum. Building is like 108 years old and our electrician has done everything perfect but cannot undo all of the "wrong" that was
done before him...thus we have this electrical hum that shows up in our downstairs studio. We had the upstairs TV studio corrected, but
we do not use that anymore...it's just me, sitting down here, having to turn out the lights on the rest of the floor when I want to do some
recording in here. Now, "in here" needs new lighting and we were wondering what to do and where to go.

Thank you for your help!!!

Sounds like you have a balast problem.

Take the balast out of the fixtures and move them into a shielded box or closet.

We did this in radio all the time. No more electrical hum on the audio.
