WSAZ To Go Off Air Saturday Night

Post by lastone »

Channel 3 says it's going off after Saturday nNght Live to do "Tower Maintenance".

Anyone know what they're really doing?

Inquiring old engineers want to know.

Tower light replacement comes to mind.
The UHF antenna is not at the tower top, so to get around it or above it they must leave the air.
Feedline problem? Possible but not likely. Maybe a small leak or something.
I do not remember whether WSAZ has split heat exchangers for their two final tubes.
Separate pumps, exchangers, reserve tank etc.
They use a Glycol cooled final tube (s), so It may be time to flush out the cooling system.
This system also cools the dummy load and the reject load for the combiner.

I don't know what the situation is, but for WSAZ to leave the air is a big deal for them.
They don't do it very often.
