russian dash cam videos

Post by genlock »

Anybody have any experience with the cheapie (<$100) dash cam/recorders?
Apparently most run on 5 volts so I have to have a regulator to avoid cables
stretching across the windshield. Be nice to have gps and an internal monitor.
If you have not seen any of the russian dashcam videos, you are in for a treat.
I kinda want one.

I bought one, but haven't hooked it up yet. Came as a recommendation from a friend that's gotten out of two tickets now because of it.

I think I paid about $25 for it.

Let me know of you results.
A camera such as this could be very handy in that situation.
I did carry around a 35 mm camera and later a digital camera for years.
Never saw one wreck in that period.
With a cost that low, It is a good Insurance item.

no gps, no screen, no continuous record.
Kind of like a cheapie Go-Pro.
probably has good video quality tho.

Have you thought of using an old smartphone for the task. My old Nexus1 is not that big, has GPS and an adequate quality video quality. My old Epic 4G Touch (from my Sprint mistake) is a little larger and has better video quality, but the GPS is a bit more shaky. I am sure there are a few option out there and an old Nexus or Galaxy phone would not be that expensive. Root the device and upgrade the OS to CyanogenMod and purchase a windshield mount from Amazon. Now that I am running more than one smartphone (again) I am thinking of setting up a phone to broadcast my trips though Philly.
