September EAS test webinar

Post by Tom Taggart »

From Al Kenyon/Fema:

As you may have heard FEMA is gearing up to conduct a national test of IPAWS. In preparation for the national test, FEMA is planning to conduct a limited test in West Virginia with the support of the West Virginia State Broadcast Association and the West Virginia Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division. FEMA invites EAS participants to attend a webinar hosted by Al Kenyon on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 1:30 pm EDT. At this webinar Mr. Kenyon will present information about the upcoming test, what you should expect, and address some EAS device configurations necessary to receive the test message. The presentation will be very similar to that provided to WV EAS Participants gathered in Charleston on Monday, August 11th, and will include background on IPAWS, what it is, what it is not and how it is supposed to work.

Details are as follows:

Event address for attendees:

There was an additional RWT sent out on 9/4/14 from Cap4(IPAWS) at 1:01PM. If you got it, you should be good for the test.

RWT REQUIRED WEEKLY TEST 'CAP4'(IPAWS ) ORG=CIV
'Wed Sep 3 13:01:00 2014 EDT' to 'Wed Sep 3 14:01:00 2014 EDT'
Decoded : 'Wed Sep 3 13:01:53 2014 EDT'

Internet delivery is the way to go, certainly. Not having to rely on a daisy chain of relays across the country and 1000 different EAS boxes configured 1000 different ways, some with delays built in, others with no delay.

Having said that, we can't rely exclusively on Internet delivery. As soon as we do, the whole damn Internet will be cyber attacked and we'll all be up shit creek.

Ironically, so was the NWS. There's only so much redundancy you can build into this.
