We are completely rebuilding a 1983 Wilkinson 2500E - and with all we've
replaced it's pretty close to a new box. My engineer talked with a guy who
was a tech at Wilkinson who pointed out all transmitters shortcomings. The
exciter was junk - and it's now gone as well as the IPA and stereo generator. We're driving it with a 300 DB exciter and have a new 3cx1500A. And most readings are close to where they should be. With that as a bit of backgound - here is the problem. When we try to put it
on the air, it makes the loading "grunts" that I know well - but no power out
Any idea??

I had something sort of like this, but I had some power out. I had moved WVKM to a new site and increased the PO. The readings were what Harris said I should expect just little PO. We were shutting down the N&W railway around Porthmouth every time we turned it on and didn't know it. Turned out the exciter didn't like the move and was BOOMING 2nd and 4th with little primary. Problem was corrected quickly and we didn't wreck any trains! Whew! Point is, if you have drive current then you're amplifing something...but what?
