Radio Shack was my introduction to all things electronic. I recall getting my first catalog when I was about 8 years old. It had one of those early cell phones that were as big as a brief case. I remember the picture showing some rich f-cker on his golf cart at some country club talking on his $3,000 cell phone paying his $50 per minute. I wanted to be him. I still don't know why.
I miss the old Radio Shack, which by the way, almost still exists to some extent in Teays Valley. If you get a chance, stop in sometime and ask for Mike (last name escapes me). Much like the momandpop hardware stores, you can take Mike a random gizmo which came out of your busted CB radio and he'll take a look at it and say "Oh, that's a T155XL out of an old Midland CB... I got on of these back here somewhere".
I still shop at Radio Shack. Probably always will.

LMAO! Me too! My station had a TSA of 'downstairs'. And that was on a good day.Dave Loudin wrote:Someone gave me that 100-projects-in-a-box kit when I was young. The only thing I built with it was the AM transmitter.

I remember WZIO having one of those old bag phones for some of the high school sports broadcasts.
We sure have come a long way, now all I need is a Remotemix Sport and my little GSM flip phone to do the same thing. I don't know how much smaller we can go...the buttons are so small on this flip phone that it's hard enough to hit the correct numbers.

I think I remember that ad....it's the construction guy on-site.
Does that mean I'm old?
By the way, I, for one, miss the days of the three-watt cell phones.

"I don't know the same things you don't know."
"Yes, you do; you just won't admit it!"
"Yeeee...it looks like a 'Belt Buckle & Ball Cap' convention in here......"
