This is a sad-thing?

I thought this was the same transmitter that was playing Rush Limbaugh to pilots over the North Atlantic.

Yep, much to the dismay of the penny-pinchers, the 1978 technology is drifting-away.

(Just don't tell them that if they repaced that power-hog 10 years ago, they would have payed for it in electricity bills).

Am I to assume that your home and work place have been fully converted to CFLs? :-)

...with the exception of 14 bulbs...yes.

I'm wasting something on the order of $42 a year in lighting.

Now to the transmitters...

Is there anyway to determine the difference in power consumption after a month or two of electric bills? I'd really like to know just how much an old vs. new costs to operate.

Lester asked

The MW10 should run around 30KW in. The Nautel about 20 KW in. Therefore if it were in WV and operated 24 hours a day, the estimated costs would look like this:

@7.5c per KWH

MW10

$2.25 per hr.

$54 per 24 hr day

$19,710 per 365 day yr

Nautel

$1.50 per hr.

$36 per 24 hr day

$13,140 per 365 day year

or around $6,570 less per year or 33% LESS!!.

Using published numbers. I would expect the savings to be even greater using operating numbers. You must take into account actual xmtr output required and whether they're doing ssb or not, repair costs over the next decade,....etc.....but you get the idea.... 8O

Then there is the five or ten year tax deduction for capital expense and other such cost reducers too.......

No one should be using a 30 year old xmtr! (pipedream)

Something else to factor in is the reduced air conditioner load.
