Reason 1,482 why I shouldn't argue radio online...

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

Reason 1,482 why I shouldn't argue radio online...

because people make statements like this and it make me want toImage
Now, if one of the local stations was put in my hands tomorrow, It'd be the top-rated station in town within 9 months. There are probably a dozen other guys in town who could do the same. None of them are currently working in radio.

I'd do with local/regional artists in the mix. The trick is not to segregate them into a local music ghetto, but to mix them in and treat them as peers with the national artists.

Oh dear and Loving Heavenly Father, in your eternal wisdom, please grant me the opportunity to one day program against a guy like that.
Thank you Lord,
Amen

I remember when I had my first programing beer, it didn't include throwing myself on a knife to save my idealistic dream so that I could be fired and kill my career within 9 months... idiot!

And, I am sure their national artist peers aren't working in the food service industry... Now serving number 2!

Enjoy... mmm!

I said that in a meeting once when I was an intern, the station manager looked at me and said, how do you make money giving?

I've always wished that locals could get onto the air a little more than they do.. For me, the allure was that I'd be able to see them live more often. I love live music. But then I hear them.. uggg. Most are a tuneout, unfortunately. One thing I did make it a point to do: Listen. Some made it onto my ipod, where they belong until they can catch the ears of someone much more important than me.

In the end there just aren't enough listeners that care where a band is from.

one a music/pop culture type website/messageboard that I frequent. It was in a thread where someone was trying to get support for his "online petition" to get more local music on the airwaves in Charleston.

another juicy nugget....in his long winded response to me basically telling him he was, um, ignorant...I get this
Prove me wrong--give me a radio station. :-)

Seriously though, I know how to make things happen, and get attention. I'd fucking own Charleston radio. I hope you guys realize that I'm not really being arrogant. Owning Charleston would be a minor accomplishment in the radio biz. It's a tiny, tiny pond, and it wouldn't take much to be the biggest fish.

Too bad nobody'll pay me enough to do it.

Please, please, please somebody give this dude a gig at any one of my competitors. C'mon Bristol and WVRC, you know you want to hire him. He knows how to make things happen! Give the guy a station!

WOW....little Hallburn-ish.

Oh..and here would be my reply (if I knew where this site was).
While your at it...put some of those crappy Myspace bands on, too. Hell you'll own the Charleston market then with easy. And add some of those emo bands too. Don't want to miss out on that market.
