How does "embargoing" work? I understand what the word means, but how, in this case, is it brought about? Do the stations (or at least a majority) determine that they don't want the numbers released (at least known to the great numbers of unwashed masses...who just happen to be their listeners)?

Arbitron controls the release. Often means there is a dispute with one or more subscribing company in the market--usually boils down to money.

Things that would embargo the morgantown book:

1. A sales staff using the arbitron 12+ numbers without paying for them

2. Aaron Scott's Show pulling strong numbers.. I'd scream for a recount too.

Let's say that the spring 2007 numbers came out and your station saw a 10 point increase overnight. Knowing that nothing much has changed in the past year or two, I'd be inclined to ask Arbitron what in the hell is going on if I were one of the traditional powers.

I wasnt asking for a breakdown of the markets. I am just trying to figure out why its me you picked and not the other 4 stations that share the same rating? I really dont mind you plugging me on the board. To be honest with you, I hadnt looked in awhile. I am just being a radio geek and proud of it! I get up, I give the news,play the hits and try to make someone smile. I dont need to be # 1 to know that most people are full of # 2.
