Re: Methane
Primordial methane develops through a different process. This means that we may be able to figure out a way to "manufacture" natural gas.

Re: Methane
I've got a theory that old sealed coal mines could be tapped every 15 years or so to extract any methane thats emitted into the mine since the time it was sealed...

Why not harness the stuff that most landfills just burn off?

So, It is possible that the hydrocarbon fuels available to us from the earth are possibly from primordial sources and may be unlimited.

Re: Methane
This is being done. The technology is still in its infancy but it has been determined to be practical. The biggest obstacle is pumping out all the waste water that fills the empty seams. The water is always contaminated.fearpeddler wrote:I've got a theory that old sealed coal mines could be tapped every 15 years or so to extract any methane thats emitted into the mine since the time it was sealed...

shouldnt be too hard to relocated it to any of the other ponds or lakes that mining companies use now to dump sludge and crap in..

No way in hell my children would attend that school. I would refuse to work there, too. I lived around coal mines and tipples all of ny childhood years.
The only thing I can tell it affected was stunting my growth.
I lived on Buffalo Creek too, Last house in Lundale.
Before the flood.

Re: Methane
Ten years ago, old mines were filled with waste from prep plants called slurry injection and then sealed. After three years, the particulate in the slurry settled out of the water then the water could be pumped into treatment plants and treated like gray water.fearpeddler wrote:shouldnt be too hard to relocated it to any of the other ponds or lakes that mining companies use now to dump sludge and crap in..

Re: Methane
No. Because we have an atmosphere and lots of water there is nothing that is actually primordial on or in the earth, but if we can figure out the primordial process of methane creation we could duplicate it. We could also send mining droids to Triton and bring some of that shit back, but that is a century or more away from even being possible.genlock wrote:So, It is possible that the hydrocarbon fuels available to us from the earth are possibly from primordial sources and may be unlimited.
Our real savior could be helium 3 from the regolith on the moon. If we can figure out cold fusion we could satisfy the entire planet's energy needs for a year with a couple of truckloads of regolith. The waste product from helium 3 cold fusion would be water and there is no radiation,

Perhaps primordial conditions exist deep underground.
