Actually, I thought it was going to be about one of my favorite DJ's from the early 70's: "Large" Ron Collier...

Re: Large Hadron Collider
Damn thing broke when they first started it.
GENEVA - The world's largest atom smasher — which was launched with great fanfare earlier this month — has been damaged worse than previously thought and will be out of commission for at least two months, its operators said Saturday.
Experts have gone into 17-mile (27-kilometer) circular tunnel housing the Large Hadron Collider under the Swiss-French border to examine the damage that halted operations about 36 hours after its Sept. 10 startup, said James Gillies, spokesman for CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research.
"It's too early to say precisely what happened, but it seems to be a faulty electrical connection between two magnets that stopped superconducting, melted and led to a mechanical failure and let the helium out," Gillies told The Associated Press.

Only in this dimension.
We were all blown to hell in the previous 4 dimensions and no longer exist.
Repent now.

Re: Large Hadron Collider
I'm feeling a huge void inside and definite weakness in the legs....they must have turned that thing on again.
No, wait....I skipped lunch.
Never mind.....

Or did it?
Well, if things really go loopy, maybe they can go back in time and find the off switch -- like it never even happened...Large Hadron Collider is online, Higgs boson be damned
"We have captured it! First circulating beam of 2009!" And with that tweet, researchers at CERN announced that they did in fact activate the Large Hadron Collider, after quite a long delay and despite warnings of a looming, nefarious Higgs boson. Whether or not we will have had total destruction as an unfortunate result of the device remains to be seen, but should the future find a way to either cease to exist or travel to the past in some time-bending paradox, we only hope linguists and physicists can work together and figure out the proper verb conjugations for this brave new world.
Or did it?

Re: Large Hadron Collider
When Super Colliders are outlawed, only Outlaws will have Super Colliders.
Hey, if you look really carefully toward the back, you can make out Mr. Data's disembodied head.
The future of energy is fusion. We should have built this collider here in the US, many years ago, but the Clintons cancelled it.

Huh??? Smashing electons and trying to figure out the quirks inside is much different than making fusion power a reality. The PPPL is only a few miles from from Philly and they are working to make fusion power a reality.

Is the PPPL in Jack Murtha's district?
