After going to Wikipedia, to answer the question, "What's in Marlinton?"

Not much. The 2000 (not 2010?) census listed the population at 1,204 hardy souls. I have no idea what local industry or businesses would support this thing, but none of the numbers looked good. It does beg the question, "What's the closest radio station/population center that could hope to keep this thing afloat?"

It does beg the question, "What's the closest population center within its coverage area that could hope to keep this thing afloat?" Also, what would be the radio station that most Marlintonians (?) would depend upon?

Sorry, folks...just recently recovered from turkey coma. Helps to explain the double post.

Greg,

Allegheny Mountain Radio (WVMR) services the area, as well as our group in Lewisburg. We get some occasional dollars from the area; for most of it's history, Marlinton was considered a 'Frontier-town', but an influx of retirees, et al have started to change the area a bit.
America is at that awkward stage.
It is too late to work within the system,
but too early to shoot the bastards.

I wondered if there were issues with the National Radio Quiet Zone. Guess not.

If the station gets built, I figure they'll tower dance the antenna to one of those huge mountains near the county line. Than they can put a respectable signal into surrounding counties.
