FCC decision

Post by genlock »

End of an Era: FCC to Drop Morse Testing for All Amateur License Classes (Dec 15, 2006) -- In an historic move, the FCC has acted to drop the Morse code requirement for all Amateur Radio license classes. The Commission adopted a Report and Order (R&O) in WT Docket 05-235 late today. In a break from typical practice, however, the FCC only issued a press release at or around the close of business today and not the actual Report & Order, so some details -- and the effective date of the R&O -- remain unclear for now. Also today, the FCC adopted an Order on Reconsideration, modifying the Amateur Radio Service rules in response to an ARRL request to accommodate automatically controlled narrowband digital stations on 80 meters in the wake of rule changes that became effective at 12:01 AM Eastern Time today. The FCC agreed to carve out the 3585 to 3600 kHz frequency segment for such operations.

This is the best news for Amateur Radio since Single Sideband was permitted on HF ...

End of an Era???..... WTF, its much more than that!!!!!!
B.T.W, this won't cause a sudden rush of new hams. This is much to late for that.

The latest band operating changes that just happened yesterday are great.
But, it makes ya wonder, why this came out so late today. Maybe we just payed a high price. Hmmm???
"..... If you are not part of the solution,
then you are part of the problem........
