This is so neat! A .pdf file (Caution: 38 MB) containing over 50 pages about the 1950s U.S. Air Force/AT&T project to bring industrial grade telephone service (and triple-redundant DEW Line early warning against a Soviet air strike) to the freezing hell of extreme northern Alaska and Canada.
Lots of photos and not-so-Geekish technical information about the project. I had an uncle who was employed by Bell Labs as an engineer, and he worked out of Fort Barrow on the White Alice project from 1955 to 1957. He was also an Extra Class amateur radio operator (aren't all Engineers?!?) and was fascinated by broadcast band DXing. He was one of the big reasons I developed a technical interest in radio.
