computer dumbass has a question

Post by Zak Tyler »

i've got a 2 year old dell laptop. it works fine for everything i need, but i'd like to bump up the RAM. is that possible (for me) to do. and is it cost effective as compared to buying new???

thanks in advance for any helpful advice.... unhelpful advice, you get sent to nunley's office.

Go to Crucial.com or Kingston.com. You should be able to look up your make and model of laptop, how much ram it can accommodate... and how much they plan to charge you.

Yep...I have a well-worn Dell Inspiron 1100. The memory is easily accessible behind an access panel on the bottom. You may have to remove a retaining screw to open the panel.

The only catch is that you have to make sure you are getting laptop memory (SODIMM's) instead of standard desktop PC memory modules (DIMM's).
