No biggie deal..Brandon Millman, who was doing news & midday's on the Planet left for a new life in LA(no not Logan, Los Angeles) so we're looking for his replacement(he was on with us in the mornings too)...meanwhile I'm pitch hitting doing news...
Edit: From what I gather its a combo gig, news & middays....

Ernie produces or is on every other commercial produced at Kindred. Combined airtime is equivalent to 18 airshifts.Hoosier Daddy wrote:Is there a reason that Ernie Anderson or Jack O'Shea isn't on the air at Kindred?
Jack keeps trying to order pizza with the touchscreens.

I certainly hope the application process there has improved since 97'. When I tried, I was met with a 'stone wall' from sales and encouraged to leave shortly after being asked "Did we call you?". I felt like saying "You just broke the law by not offering me an application", but didn't, figuring they wern't worth the hassel! It was the only place in town I was treated like that.

Someone has to offer an application for employment for a job that doesn't exist? Lawyers, help me on this one. Did you just storm-in wanting an application?
All I know is all stations went through a lenghty EEO review by the FCC that required a stack of paperwork that measured 4 inches in height.
The FCC seemed pleased with our efforts and the new applications are being logged and filed as we speak. But that's public-record...pretty sneaky, huh?
(I'm responding because you probably think I'm legally required to respond to your post because it referenced employment at a radio station. I checked with D.C. they say I'm in the clear either way.)
Thank you for your interest in...

Doesn't matter and yes... If it is requested it must be provided regardless of whether or not there is an opening. But you must specifically ask for a job application. "y'all got any openin's" doesn't count.Cameron wrote: Was there an opening?

Ok, I'll be more specific.
It was fall of 97' and I went to every media outlet in Huntington (TV and radio) making application and leaving resume's.
At Kindred, I got off the elevator and was greeted by a young 'black' lady. I made my request for an application and offered the resume'. She searched but said she could not find an application. She then proceded to what I assume was the sales dept. (behind her desk and to my right) and out came a tall woman, my resume in hand. The conversation went something like this.
"What is it you want?"
"I would like to apply for any position. You can see I have done most everything at a radio station".
"Did we call you?"
"No, but you could have someting in the future".
"We have no openings".
(About that time a short guy about my age {then} came from an office almost around the corner to the left and smiled as he passed me.)
She then turned around tossing the resume' in the trash as headed back to 'sales'.
The other lady shook her head in disbelief as I got back on the elevaror.
And I thought the Thompson guy at SAZ in 71' was an ass!! This gal had him beat bad !!

That's the Kindred way - don't worry about it - that is why they are 3rd of 3 in the Huntington market.
But they do have Cameron who is not only a genius, a hack of an engineer, a FCC expert but also a legal expert. If you don't believe me - ask him.
Thw worst thing they did was let Big Poppa Jay get away - The Planet surely is not the same!

Right again, Kaos.
Not much of a reader behind that fake name, huh?
There's the problem. This damn operation has been under the same ownership for over 20 years. If they'd sell-out every 5, nobody would bitch.Lee wrote:Dude. It happened 10 years ago.

The entire point of bringing it up now....and you missed it....is that radio here is a closed shop. If you don't currently know someone in the local business, you will never get a job in radio here. Clearly from the posts, the treatment of applicants I encountered ten years ago is still going on today. If for no other reason than lack of knowlege.Lee wrote:

So go ahead and be a bastard to the short, fat, red headed guy who asks for an application. Just as long as the application is forthcoming.
Else he may whip out an FCC badge and take your quarterly earnings for quite a while.
Well....SAZ has changed hands many times and they (collectively) still act as though they are better than the John Q Public they serve. Have ever since I've been alive. There's the problem. This damn operation has been under the same ownership for over 20 years. If they'd sell-out every 5, nobody would bitch.
Now back to the Herdgirl hidden camera marathon...........
