Congratulations to WDGG....longtime board readers might remember I "heard" this coming several years back, saying that I believed WDGG was more personable on the air and was playing the hits while WTCR had become arrogant and undisciplined in its music.

I think those numbers have more to do with Camerons maintenance of the tower light than anything else.

Somewhere, a Jedi has lost some midi-chlorians.
Aircheck? You'd make a great board op.

Just the second obstruction light on tower three. That's the really important one.

BTW Lester, you may want to check on Mikey B.
He may have fallen on a sword or something.

The novelty wore off. A light AC station WILL NOT SURVIVE (well, WILL NOT THRIVE), in Moneyton. The only thing Magic has going for it is talent (with the exception of the guy who phones it in from Bloomington).

There is money to be made with Hot A/C in Huntington --- if it's done right.

Magic needs to tweak, not go away.

Keep up the promotions and the station's excellent visibility.

Get a real PD who knows the format inside out. Miller is a deep voice with a recognizable name in the market. He is nothing more and never was.

Make a handful of minor changes. Stay fresh.

Next book will be better.

Again, and I know we've been through this before, one might argue that 'KEE is a Hot AC.

....not one like I like 'em, but one, nonethelss....

It's actually an Adult CHR, but, in a market with relatively few signals, its presence would make trying to enter the Hot AC space....unwise?

Mike Blair used to demand a Hot AC and, literally within the same breath, then mention that all of a Hot AC's target listeners have moved out of the market. He would suggest the lack of one was a reason they moved out, and I would always suggest the fact that they moved out is a big reason not to put one there.

Anyway, I thought Magic was rather upbeat and contemporary when I heard them....you want 'em more upbeat and contemporary??

I guess what I'm trying to say is ...

1) Stay the course (format wise)
2) Get a real PD
3) Continue to tweak
4) Maintain that edge
5) Keep plugging away

You are right about WKEE-FM being an Almost Hot A/C during the daytime, especially before 3 pm. The longtime market loyalties, heritage signal and calls are not insurmountable though. Just ask WTCR.

My $0.02.

We see this every year in Cincy. Mix or one of the stations goes all Christmas and shoot up in the ratings and trend down the other books.

Since there are only two books here, it looks more drastic than it really is.

JB is a pro and his voice will continue to boom loudly with or without a microphone. BTW how about a nod to Woody. He works his butt off and deserves it.

Heh...
2) Get a real PD
...whatever that means these days. Perhaps that would make a good discussion another time....
4) Maintain that edge
I'm curious what you mean by that.....

When I listened, Magic was involved in a lot of "right now" things in Huntington. Something downtown tomorrow. Something at the riverfront this weekend. I contrast this to some other stations that play recorded liners about their music or how everyone in the office likes the station.

Magic seemed topical, immediate, and centered on the here and now in Huntington and the Tri-State. To me, it's an edge other stations don't have or don't do as well.

And Hell, I don't even like Hot A/C music ...

Wow.

This whole ratings thing has the makings of the most controversial radio scandal ever to hit the airwaves in some time.

Not since Tom Roten said that...um....one thing he always says....what is it...........um...................................................................
...................................................................................
................................*flips page of the Herald-Dispatch *....................
......................................................................................
.......................................................................................

........................anyway. This is huge.

I bet recounts will be demanded. The radio world has never seen the likes of this since Bush/Gore.

Will the West Side of Huntington be the new Florida? Will Clear Channel concede or keep demanding recounts? Will we see Cameron in a pilot's outfit on the edge of Harris Riverfront Park declaring victory?

Time will tell.

And....the world watches....on edge.

My hat's off to WDGG and crew. I never thought they would pull it off. They deserve 6 full months of gloating.

I have said before and I will say it again, Chuck's departure from WTCR was the beginning of the end. Just the other day, I had a client in my office. The client lives in Catlettsburg and I made mention of the fact that I used to work on radio mountain. His reply... "You know Chuck Black?" How long has it been since Chuck left? Chuck is to WTCR as Gary Miller is to WKEE. Add to that Jesse's retirement and WTCR will never be the same again.

[/getting nostalgic]

Anyhoo, I also wanted to take my hat off to Mark Wood. He is one of the nicest guys I have ever had the privilege of working with and he has (single handedly, if you ask me) taken the worst possible combination of shit (Satellite Oldies/NASCAR/Defunct Blizzard Hockey) and turned it into gold. The station has never sounded so good.

On to WAMX, I hate that fussing morning show and I can't wait until its demise. I do not buy that it got a 7.4 either (especially since B&T only got a 3.9). Unless you mean people tuned in for 7.4 seconds and then tuned away. Then, I am on board.

Connoisseur, holly cow. JB went from the top show on WKEE to #5. Having said that, I believe JB is better without Sheila and Sheila is better with out JB (or Jim, or Jason, or The Herald-Dispatch Audio Edition, with Bill Cornwell). Still, good improvement on the hippie station, WRYV. Blast the 70's crap and play some Metallica for christsake.

Dave... uh.... what did he um................ Let me kiss Rahall's ass until I get him off the phone. Then tomorrow, we'll talk about him like the Democrat he is.

WBKS, no one cares. No one.

WLGC, good god.... they're still on the air?

WHERE IS WEMM? We want to know. We've waited all this time for spring numbers and no WEMM?
