New WWOD photos

Post by fmksey »

Several months ago I posted a link to WWOD, Lynchburg, VA - Photos of the abandon studios - here are some new ones. I had to find out more about this station --- In the 40s thu the 70s it was always a major player in that market, but seldom #1 (but only 4 stations - we discount FM back then.) The company who owned them in Birmingham, AL applied for a TV in about 52 and they got channel 19-23, something UHF-- and built the studios - for TV. Radio was moved to this building and TV never went on the air. Who in there right mind would have put on a UHF in the 50s? So
this massive tomb was all radio.

It's close to Halloween -- want to have a dead radio/tv station party here?

Why is it the interior photos look better than my apartment?

Very cool. I love stuff like this, reminds me of the pictures of Pripyat. What a waste of what looks like a very nice facility, though.

Yea, same here.
