What Is Wrong With This Site?

Post by lastone »

Since late last wek I have had problems getting this site to load. It is now taking up to a minute a page or just times out. Nothing has changed here and the other sites work like always.

What has happened?

Anyone else having the problem?

I think the hamster in the server's power wheel is getting tired.

It is back to normal now. However, perhaps we need to click the googles so we can buy new ram and stuff.

It was probably just running low on coal. New shipment and the fire's all stoked again.

OK folks... sorry about that.

Here is the dealio... I'm not exactly near the server. (Even under normal conditions it is in Texas, I am in NC, but I digress). My Internet connection SUCKS, so when the server was moving slow, I thought it was me... not the message board. (This culminated in a flat out lock-up that required the intervention of my server provider.) The problem? No freakin' clue. Why is it happening? Don't know. But don't let anyone tell you how much better Linux is than Windows... as the problem popped up all by itself. There were no changes to the system, nothing. It has just decided that it wants to be rebooted every few months or its not going to work right. I lost track of time, and didn't know until it was too late.

So, I apologize for the issue. I'll do my damnedest to make sure it doesn't happen again. And I've issued a refund to all paying subscribers. :-)

Love ya, mean it.

A couple of other message boards I read daily were slowing down for awhile. I don't know what servers or ISPs they use, but they use a different type of message board software. Maybe the problem was caused by a hacker trying frequent login attempts.

Maybe, but not likely. The server hosts about 15 different sites, and it affected all of them, not just the message boards. I think one of my customers high amount of SPAM causes the server to drop over.
