WVTS, programming sponsored by porn?

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

WVTS, programming sponsored by porn?

Post by CoolBreeze »

Yesterday ( Saturday ) I was listening to "Free Talk Live" on WVTS radio. I like that show. I agree with little of what it offers but that's half the fun. If nothing else, it supplies me with ammunition!

Anyway... during a commercial break, I heard a spot for (of all things) ... porn videos. This porn company is a sponsor of Free Talk Live, and offered to send porn "right to your door!" They went on to name all the famous porn stars that they carried, and I'm surprised they didn't include audio sound bites... "ohhhh...ahhhh... faster !'

Naturally, today WVTS had religious programming on the air.

I wondered what might happen once the long-time owner died. Now I know. I guess that's what you call "covering all bases"?

This is kind of related. In 2001 we accepted an order for a show called "American Dissident Voices" from Hillisboro WV The order came from a agency that buys blocks of time for (I thought) Christian shows.
We aired the show at 5am on sundays --- no one really paid much attention, at first - it was so well produced and as radio in the back
ground it sounded like a strange history program. It was on the air for about 2 months when a minister from one of the Methodist churches call to ask why we had a show like this on. Sure enough, it was the worst-worst-worst antic semitic trash I've ever heard. We assume that when people buy airtime it will be in good taste (and most of the time the buyers will let you know that content will be offensive) but it's our role to police, better than I did, what we let on the air.

Did any of the videos star Taylor Hayes or Kobi Taye? And how many did you order?

What's the name of that whack-job white supremacy group that's hunkered down in Pocahontas County? It's especially creepy that such an outfit exists in what may be the most peaceful, bucolic area in the eastern US.

I think that's it. William Pierce. Must be the source of fmskey's program.

I must say, deviating from the orignial path of this topic, that WVTS is sounding mighty nice these days (compared to my last trip through Charleston a month or so ago)...lots of positive peaks and plenty of that tasty modulation. I was even able to carry the post daylight 1kW up 79 around 12:30 this morning...way to go Randy!

Back off, I'm not sucking ass...

Hey... Didn't they try to knock off the Personal Assistant to the President, Charlie Young?

Or was that an episode of The West Wing?

How the mighty have fallen. Jed Bartlet's personal assistant playing second banana on a crappy cable sitcom.
