If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

WKKW listener in Pittsburgh

Post by Jon Fox »

I guess it was the atmospheric conditions that did it, but I listened to WKKW yesterday morning on my way in to Downtown Pittsburgh. It was nice to listen to one of my hometown stations. By the way, I am thankful for the internet I am able to stay connected to some of the stations... I am able to listen to WAJR, WKKW, WWLW, and some of the local sports are streamed by WRLF/WTCS/WMMN. I also like how WDTV and WBOY stream video.

Either freak atmospheric conditions or somebody put some new Ray-O-Vacs in the transmitter.

Yeah it was atmospheric conditions because it hasn't happened since. But I've noticed that when I get into Washington Co., 97.9 starts to come in. I'm not being critical of Y108 or Froggy 98... they are both good radio stations, but I like WKKW & Charleston's 96.1 The Wolf better. I've been listening to The Wolf online a little bit.

Because it beats anything they produce in the 'Burgh.

And that snide remark from a resident of the Sixth Boro.

That was said very tongue in cheek since I trained his smelly ass about 19 years or so ago.

Yep, we have that all around Rittenhouse Square in Philly. (Made famous in radio history by Stern's mock funeral for John DeBella.)

That would be cool if WDNE-FM streamed online. I like WDNE-FM... it has a good signal into Fairmont and I used to listen occasionally.

Jon, I respect your opinion. You note that Froggy is a "good radio (station)."

Do you really think that or is it that you used to work for them? And, seriously, I'm not being snide in asking (although I suppose I'm going slightly off-topic). Care to elaborate?

I like the music variety on the Froggy here... personally I could do without the Froggy names, etc...

I like WDNE because you hear a lot of country songs from the 90s you won't hear anymore on any other station. One thing about Froggy here in Pittsburgh - they seem to have live jocks on even overnight
