They were still shitty.
An example of an RCA/Ampro console is on display at the Radio Museum in Huntington.

Another is on display, and in partial use, at the radio museum in Fairlea. AKA WRON.
America is at that awkward stage.
It is too late to work within the system,
but too early to shoot the bastards.

...and to think, the Boyd Co. ARES was the only one with the old call the other night.

Just out of curiousity, why W1 and not W4 (Kentucky's call area)?

:?

WRVC market rank is 12th.
They only allow one number.

Answer 1 - To screw with the DXers thinking they got a New England catch...who knows, maybe I'll "move to the call".
(Regional callsign purity is polluted by people moving to different regions...oh and no-code licenses).
Answer 2 - Good Gen, I'll go home and quit maintaining this directional. It's kinda' hot anyway.

The vanity call system is probably the biggest offender in tainting the regional callsign system.

I'm K4OM, in West Virginia, normally an 8th call area state.
to remind you, West Virginia was once in the 4th call area, prior to the war of northern aggression.

Long before the days of Amateur Radio.

Mahlon Loomis, a Washington, DC dentist, claimed to have transmitted signals in October 1866 between two Blue Ridge Mountain-tops 14 miles apart in Virginia, using kites as antennas, but with no independent witnesses present.

I'll see your Loomis and raise you a Stubblefield.

(Bet he'd "take the 4".)

My vanity plate is better, though. Couldn't sneak that through now.

My vanity plate is classic. Better than better.
Cameron, do you have your concrete in yet? Why not?

Hole dug - check.
Tower section - check.
12 hour days at work - check.

I'll get to it in a few days.

Damn, I barely got my handheld programmed!

P.S. - I'm moving KG4DVE to another tower on the Tarpin Ridge property. They're trying to link it to Paintsville EOC and it isn't working out. The audio is pretty crap-tacular. I think during the move I'll get an analyzer, freq. counter, and wattmeter on things to get the club tuned-up. I think the repeater is underperforming. With the move, a new antenna, less shadowing, and a yagi towards Paintsville for the link, I think things will get much better within the next 90 days.
Now...D-Star, WIRES, or something else?

AEGIS, EDACS, G-STAR, MDC1200, OpenSky, and an old MARC-V system for historical value.

Biggest problems for most two-way repeaters co-located with FM broadcast is simple front end overload. That big 100KW stereo master blaster a couple hundred feet up the tower throws an RF iron curtain around a Motorola or GE receiver designed to sniff out a 5 watt portable radio transmitting from ten miles away.

I'm interested to hear what you find out with the spectrum analyzer and the service monitor ...

Motorola or GE will do much better than off the shelf ham rigs.
Commercial grade stuff.
Waveguide likes Moto.
I think he has a tattoo.

Sounds like you are beginning to have some fun.
Herdgirl will help you with the cement.
You may call her Aggregate instead of Rocky.

Old Mahlom Loomis 1826-1886 is my wife's 6th cousin 4 times removed. His ancestor Joseph Loomis came to America in the early 1600s from Braintree, Essex, England.
