The Aloha Stations Trust was created in 2008 after the privatization of then-Clear Channel Communications eliminated grandfathered ownership of stations and requiring divestitures of stations.
Eleven years later thirteen stations remain in the trust, but four of them are now on their way to a new home as iHeartMedia will swap Classic Rock “Eagle 102.3” WEKL Augusta GA, Variety Hits “Steve-FM” 106.1 WSFF Winton/Roanoke and simulcaster 101.7 WSNZ Lynchburg VA, and Classic Country “107.1 The Bear” WLRX Ironton OH/Huntington WV to Educational Media Foundation for six translators.
The six translators are all already operated by iHeartMedia via lease. They are:
Conservative Talk “Power Talk 101.1” K266BD Carmel Valley CA which simulcasts 1460 KION Salinas via 105.1 KOCN-HD2 Pacific Grove
Regional Mexican “98.5 El Patron” K253BV Oklahoma City which is fed via 94.7 KBRU-HD2 Oklahoma City
Alternative “Alt 93.3” W227BF Shoreview/Minneapolis which is fed via KQQL-HD2 Anoka MN
“ESPN Pittsburgh” 106.3 W292DH Pittsburgh PA which rebroadcasts 970 WBGG Pittsburgh
92.1 W221CR Memphis TN which rebroadcasts News/Talk 600 WREC Memphis
Gospel “Hallelujah 97.5” W248BQ Nashville TN which is fed via WNRQ-HD2 Nashville
The Aloha Station Trust will still hold nine licenses in Albuquerque, Bismarck, Dayton, Frederick MD, Huntington WV, and Lexington KY.
Not sure what they want it for. EMF already has 104.1--the former WPAY--which covers this same area like a blanket. The WLRX signal doesn't even provide much coverage of Huntington.
Maybe they have a trade in mind with some other non-com operator.
Louisa is a lease and would not surprise me if at the end of the lease EMF drops it now that they have WPYK. I have heard rummer in the past the owner forgets to pay the electric bill from time to time and the power got shut off.
