VA Tech shooting

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Virginia Tech Campus Reels From Shooting That Leaves at Least 32 Dead

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,266374,00.html
Students and faculty at Virginia Tech University were in shock Monday after a gunman shot and killed at least 32 people and injured 21 during the most deadly shooting spree in U.S. history.

Federal law enforcement officials told FOX News that the 32 dead includes the shooter. Campus police said there was only one shooter responsible for the two shootings, which occurred about two hours apart from each other.

Two hour delay. THAT will be the most important discussion after the shootings themselves.

What an absolutely f'ed up situation.

And what sucks is that the campus police might not be trained for these types of situations.

Even worse is going to be the weeks and weeks of "How could this have been prevented?" that we're ALREADY getting. Listening to Washington Post Radio (truly the worst major market station ever) at 12:45p today and the host was asking that question.

One caller said it best and I couldn't agree with him more:

"You can't stop crazy."

Radio angle #1: Our night guy put listeners on the air all night talking about this. Lots of NoVa kids go to VT. Hope he doesn't catch shit about it for tomorrow from the PD. He did the right thing in my thing.

Radio angle #2: Most relieved man right now? Don Imus.

From DCRTV:
XM To Relay Roanoke Radio Reaction To Tech Shootings - 4/16 - Starting Tuesday morning, DC-based XM Satellite Radio will feature a relay of Roanoke radio stations to provide coverage of and reaction to the tragedy at nearby Virginia Tech. News talk WFIR and contemporary hit WXLK will share time on XM-120 to provide "a local perspective on this story." Kevin Scott, program director of WXLK, will take calls from listeners. "My AM show has been on the air since 2 PM (Monday) letting K92 listeners speak their minds and share their feelings," he says. "Some are very emotional... Some are angry... Most are in disbelief".....

...and whilst taking calls, I'll be saying my name over and over and making damn sure that as many syndication companies are listening to my coverage as possible.

Mrs. Smith has a niece on her side of the family that goes to Virginia Tech. She's ok, but yesterday was not a good day to put it mildly.

I sitting here in the studio and have MSNBC on. The analyst suggested that the shooter killed "because of the unendurable stigma attached to loss of face" because his ex-girlfriend had broken up with him.

Ok...the loss of face. I know some stuff about "lossing face" but I alway had the idea that you won't go out and killed people because of it.

The times...they are changing. 8O

The shooter committed suicide by blowing his own face off.

We must start an email campaign decrying MSNBC's insensitivity toward all who have had their faces blown off and their friends, family, and relatives.

Here's Chris Rock's bit about kids and violence. This may apply to this situation. Funny stuff but may not be suitable for work.
